Robert Stein has produced and financed several film and television projects, such as The Call released by TriStar Pictures starring Halle Berry and Abigail Breslin, directed by Brad Anderson; The Road Within starring Dev Patel, Zoe Kravitz, Robert Sheehan, Kyra Sedgwick and Robert Patrick, written & directed by Gren Wells; Careful What You Wish For, starring Nick Jonas, Isabel Lucas, Dermot Mulroney and Paul Sorvino, directed by Elizabeth Allen. Early in his career he was a production assistant on films directed by John Huston, Howard Hawks and Franklin Schaffner.


Robert started his career for legendary impresario Paul Kohner. After a few years he went out on his own, and with partners, he eventually formed Leading Artists Agency. With five young agents, they later founded United Talent Agency, followed by ten years as Head of Worldwide Motion Pictures Group, William Morris Agency. The Gores Brothers recruited Stein to expand Paradigm Talent and Literary Agency. Over the years his clients have included such talent as: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Ray Romano, Kevin James, Rob Reiner, Paul & Chris Weitz, Frank Darabont, Martha Coolidge, Boaz Yakin, Tim Story, Chuck Russell, Joe Ruben, Matt Williams, William Friedkin, David Auburn, Robert Altman, Robert Harmon, Robert Mulligan, Marsha Norman, and many other screenwriters, directors, actors, playwrights, and novelists.  


Robert was the Founder and Board Chair of the American Film Institute (AFI) Third Decade Council; and was a past Board Member of American Cinematheque. He previously served as a California State Commissioner; Board Chair and Trustee for the California Science Center, Exposition Park. Robert remains a principal in Nexgen Partners, a multimillion real estate development company. He is married to Erin Mulcahy Stein, attorney, Board Member United Friends of the Children and Executive Director of Women’s Alzheimer Movement. They have three adult children; Julian Paul, Jamie Louis and Oliver Altman Stein.
